About Me.....

My name is Nicky Crystal Jittan and I attend the University of South Alabama, majoring in Elementary Education. With approximately two years left before I'm officially a teacher, draws my curiosity of what teaching would really be like. I really don't have a grade preference, I plan to give it my all with whatever grade I'm teaching. The reason I want to become a teacher is to be able to make a difference in someone's life. I will do my best day in and day out to become the best teacher I could possibly be!

My Teaching Philosophy

The process of becoming a teacher is very exciting to me. I never would have thought in a million years that one could learn so much about teaching without having to have any prior experience. I could hardly wait to step foot into my own classroom and be able to connect with my students. Being able to make a positive difference in someone's life is very important to me. I may not be able to touch everyone as I reach out to them but I sure do want to try. Good, caring, and loving teachers are very hard to find. What I really want is when my students think of me, they would say I am the best teacher they've ever had!

Attitudes

My attitude towards teaching is very positive. The way I look at it is as long as I'm working with children, it is my responsibility to be a role model which then means having a good attitude. I want to teach my school kids that caring for one another and working together is the key to success. Attitude is extremely important in society! The way we view things, whether it's positive or negative has an effect on us. I will try my best to help kids understand that being positive can take them a very long way in life. A person's attitude can make them or break them when it comes to getting hired at a new job, keeping a job, making new friends, getting along with family members, etc.. As a soon to be teacher, bringing a positive attitude to my classroom is one of the main tools I would use.

Aptitudes

One of the main reasons of becoming a teacher for me is because I feel as if I have a great connection with kids. I believe I can make a difference in their lives by understanding each and every one of them individually. I'm not the type of person that would only see one side of the story if a kid gets in trouble, I'm the one that would analyze the situation and find out where the root the the problem came from. Everyone learns at a different pace and I believe I have the ability to be patient with each kid on their level of learning. Bottom line is, I love to teach! Figuring out the easiest possible way of learning new material is my goal to my students.

Approaches

My approach to teaching is to keep it simple, and keep it easy! The last thing kids want to deal with at school is being confused on the material presented in class by their teacher. From what I can recall from being in school, I expected my teachers to not confuse me on new material they presented. I expected them to teach us as students the less complicated way of learning something new. My goal as a teacher would be to do research on different learning strategies and using the one that works best for my classroom even if this means going through all the strategies. I want to make my students as comfortable as possible in the classroom. I want them to know that school is where they need to be and that they should value their education. As one of my close friends once told me, "people can take away a lot of things from you but they can't take away your education!" My approach would be to help each and every child be the best that they can be.

Tools

One tool I plan to use as a teacher is GOOGLE. Taking EDM 310 has taught me a lot about Google. Google can be used as an educational tool for students. I plan to incorporate Google as much as I can into my classroom. I learned a lot with Google and I plan to teach my students how to use it effectively. One main reason I plan to use Google is because it's FREE! A free site that offers as much as this does is always a plus for me. I plan to use Google to teach my kids how to create documents, create presentations, created an email account, search around the world with Google earth, and many many more interesting things. I also plan to use Blogs depending on the age level of my students. Blogs can be very personal to a person and I believe the kid would enjoy this as one on their personal learning networks. Blogs can allow for students to view each other's posts and aslo comment on them. Blogs can also be posted on Youtube or linked to just about anything or any site. I definitely believe that technology plays a big part in our future and it is never too early to teach our kid about it.
